In Week 9 of our Finding Joy in Chaos series, Pastor Dave Melendez teaches Philippians 4:1-3. Dave highlights a powerful source of lasting joy: knowing that our names are written in the Book of Life.
As Paul begins addressing practical challenges within the church, he tells believers to “stand fast in the Lord.” The phrase carries the idea of being persistent, consistent, and immovable in faith. Paul also addresses a disagreement between two faithful women in the church. He talks to Euodia and Syntyche, urging them to be of the same mind in the Lord. Even in the midst of conflict, Paul points believers to their identity in Christ and the eternal hope they share.
The focus of this message is Paul’s reference to believers whose names are written in the Book of Life. Throughout Scripture, the Book of Life is presented as God’s record of those who belong to Him. Pastor Dave explores key passages from Revelation that describe the Book of Life and its significance in eternity. Paul reminds us that entrance into Heaven isn’t based on anything we can do, but on a relationship with Jesus.
Paul also addresses how to know your name is written in the Book of Life. Using the illustration of receiving an invitation, Pastor Dave explains that God has extended an invitation of salvation to every person. However, that invitation must be accepted. Most importantly, access to the Father comes only through Jesus Christ, who declared in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
If you’ve ever wondered about salvation, eternity, or how to have confidence in your relationship with God, this message offers biblical clarity and hope. True joy is found not in circumstances, achievements, or temporary success, but in the assurance that through Jesus Christ, your name can be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
