In this message, Pastor Dave challenges us to practice standing on biblical truth in every area of life. Standing on biblical truth means trusting God’s Word, living by it, sharing it with others, and refusing to compromise when culture pushes against what God has established.
As Pastor Dave continues Nehemiah: More Than a Wall, we look at the Old Gate and the Valley Gate in Nehemiah 3. These gates point us to powerful truths that still shape how followers of Jesus should live today. The Old Gate reminds us of the truth of God’s Word. The Valley Gate reminds us that trials do not mean God has abandoned us. Instead, God meets us in the valley, strengthens us through the battle, and uses difficult seasons to grow our faith.
The Old Gate points us toward the ancient paths of God’s truth. Jeremiah 6:16 calls God’s people to stop, look, ask for the good way, and walk in it. Yet Scripture also shows how easily people reject that way. In a culture where truth often changes with opinions, trends, and personal preferences, Christians must stand firmly on what God has said. Biblical truth endures. It does not change. It brings freedom. God defines truth, and His Word remains trustworthy.
Pastor Dave also looks at the Valley Gate and the spiritual significance of walking through difficult seasons. Valleys can become places where battles are fought and won. They can also become places where God grows our dependence on Him. When life feels painful, uncertain, or overwhelming, we can hold tightly to Jesus because He remains close to the brokenhearted. Our valleys do not have the final word.
The message also challenges us to look beyond ourselves. As Pastor Dave discussed last week, the Sheep Gate reminds us of Jesus and the truth that salvation comes through Him alone. The Fish Gate reminds us of evangelism and our calling to cast the net so others can hear the gospel and come to faith in Christ.
As we follow Nehemiah’s story, we discover that rebuilding the walls involved more than repairing broken structures. God was rebuilding His people. He was calling them to remember who He is, trust His truth, endure their trials, and faithfully point others toward Him. In a world that constantly pressures us to compromise, this message calls us to stand firm. We can live with confidence because God’s truth remains unchanging, Jesus remains our Savior, and God remains present in every valley.
